everytime I have friends visiting toronto I am amazed and so are they at the amount of live music, theatre, films etc. to see no matter what night you are here. It is so great! Jazz and improv music here tonight is insane.

some see email as the beginning of the anti-social generation. I see it as a nice to way to have some solitary time spent while getting some work done.

Sure, I love talking on the phone or meeting over coffee etc. but I have come to realise as I am sure many folks have that it is great (and even necessary) to spend a certain amount of your waking hours alone.

Yahhh, email!!

with the strong improvisers scene of late here in Toronto I have found myself questioning the value of composition and leading these bands of mine that play mostly my music.

I even find the members sometimes prefer improvising. (hmmm....can this be good?) I think their interest in improvisation and high value they attach to the freedom of improvisation is the reason for this.

It occurs to me that besides being a lot of fun, composition is a way to control (oh no, not the C word!) the direction of a band. It allows me as a leader to have some say in how our concert will be shaped and how we will communicate with the audience.

Generally, I prefer a nice blend of composition and improvisation in a set, both as a listener and a performer.

little things make a big difference in my days sometimes. I went down to speakers corner on city tv and did a plug for my new cd In the Future of Your dream. (with my little guy in my arms) and a nice guy named Bennett emailed me to tell me that I was on the show.

I am glad to know, makes me smile. I have been on that crazy little show for almost all my Cds.

Way to go City!! Thanks Bennett!

happy day.
