Cluttertones Film Premiere
I have been playing with my friends in a group called Cluttertones for something like two decades. We have shared a lot of good times and great music. The group features Lina Allemano on trumpet, Ryan Driver on analog synth and our fearless leader Rob Clutton plays the bass and composes the music. (I play banjo and guitar) At some point while we were rehearsing for one of our recordings one of us suggested that we make a documentary about ourselves. I know that sounds a little bit strange but I think our main reason was we wanted to share a little bit of the joy, the humour and the friendship we have with those who are not in the rehearsal studio with us. This idea lingered for some time. I think we even talked about going shopping for used clothing together and capturing it all on our phones and using that as a starting point for a film. Well…we never went shopping and never started making that film. A year or two passed and Ryan mentioned that he had a friend who was a film maker that might be interested in making a Cluttertones film. One day Ryan’s friend Luka Kuplowsky showed up at one of our rehearsals and started filming us at work. It took us a minute to feel comfortable with the camera rolling all the time but eventually we became pretty good at being ourselves again. Without giving too much away before you see the film, it has some things in common with the classic documentary style showing a work in progress with a look at the behind the scenes creative process. Luka Kuplowsky studied film making at York University but he is also a wonderful singer/songwriter and did a fair bit of touring in Canada last year in support of his recent release called How Can I Possibly Sleep When There Is Music. His film, Memory Of Light; featuring the Cluttertones will be premiering on January 15 at 7pm at Innis Town Hall. Admission is free! Also, the Cluttertones are performing live on January 6 at Sellers and Newel.
