I am enjoying having itunes play random music from my music collection for me while i work. This whole experience of digital music etc. really takes some experience before you can pass judgement on it. Each part of it I check out seems to be fun, convenient and useful for various reasons.

I think I should (maybe) stop making records for a minute. I have a brand new one not yet mastered or pressed etc. with Howard Johnson and a fairly recent one with Jazzstory, both of which have not been heard outside of Canada (Hojo barely outside of my house)

If I stop this cycle of making records and touring Canada, I can find some time, energy and money to travel abroad. I think I might be on to something.

Ok, having said that. Cant wait to get back on the road with Jazzstory this fall. (Hojo next...)

Sometimes I am frustrated at how Cds have become like business cards to a lot of people.

It seems unlikely there will be much live playing to "support" my last recording, in the future of your dream and I am already seeing how hard it is going to be to let people know about it without touring etc. (the ensemble is too large)

I have some other records I would like to make, that involve lots more writing (which I love) but I am feeling the pressure to make cds of bands that can book gigs too...

what pressure eh?...

I am very sad about the passing of Steve Lacy. It is the first time I have lost a great musician that I knew and played with briefly.

It is a sad reminder that he is one person's music who I will continue to explore all my life (Like Zappa) and it will take a lifetime to get a grasp on his large, important body of work.

Just reading a journal from last summer's tour and found a couple classic Jean Martin quotes;

"Imagine if you were the television and you could see what people looked like."

"...if I was as tall as whee the plane was...."

I have no live shows coming up. I thought it would be a nice change but I am starting to lose it already. I guess I will see how it goes, could be nice being at home, working at a leisurely pace...hmmmm. we will see.

I have taken to reflecting on the last year and a half and listening to recordings of new works, live shows etc. I am going to start burning them as well as as making them available for filesharing.

Heck, I wrote a lot of music in the last couple years and I want more people to hear it. Plus, it is fun to listen to music that i finished a year or two ago. I have enough distance to really listen and check it out like someone other than me might do.
