do you think they know that a Canadian jazz artist released as Cd in l993 called Hoser City?

They do now. You can count on me to keep them informed. This Cd cover and layout etc. was done by one of my oldest friends Steve Szigeti. We go back to Kindergarten!! (I happen to know that at least one other person from that same class occasionally reads this blog too!)

Anyways, I still like this cover and the music (heck you can buy it at www.guildwoodrecords.com

It features my pal andy milne as well as brent bodrug victor bateman and kevin dempsey. My first canadian tour was in support of this fine piece of Canadian art. (ok, enough modesty for now)

tune in to DNTO....I know Ill be listening.

Lots of listening in these home days. Whether I am with the kids or working alone I keep those cds spinning. How fast do they go?

Jean Martin's new Laconner disc is really good. take Jesse Zubot and Francois Houle improvising, let Jean mix, compose, record, improvise, sing, you name it....it is really interesting. I am anxious to hear the mini disc I have of the Jazzstory gig from the other night. I havent had a new jazzstory set to listen to in sometime. I am getting quite a bit of smiles from the Grossman/Posgate gig (yes we need a name for our duo) the other night.

Enjoying the Shostakovich string quartets that andrew downing loaned me. Checking out a new disc by guitar player Matt Stevens. Not sure how I feel about that one yet. Certainly some good guitar playing on it.

My guilty pleasure, I suppose is the new Rheostatics disc. I like it. Not all of it but some of it is great.

I think I need a bowl of shreddies. (that is so Burlington eh?)

When I hear today's players I find they are either copying this older style and almost completely missing the point (or the magic). Then when i listen to the hot young guitar player doing the modern thing i feel that they are missing the elements in this older style that could make their modern music much more beautiful. I find it a little confusing (and I am sure that this entry is not helping one bit)

ok, got it off my chest.

Bob Wiseman was so good. I really like his films with his live music accompaniment. His accordion playing, beautiful songs with his unique vocal timbre and phrasing made for a fantastic set of music.

Jazzstory is always fun for me. Picking what we will play is always a bit tricky but we had a lot of new tunes last night which always makes it exciting for me.

It was extra special for me as we were able to play our music for many new people (and lots of old friends) and they seemed to respond positively to our sound.

I can hardly wait till next year already. Thanks again to Mike Hansen!!
