Exclaim Cup Rocks! It would be even more fun if we didn't lose both games today. I am playing with a bunch of great guys from victoria. The vibe of the tourney is awesome and we are even sponsored by Amsterdam Breweries (thanks Rob!)

I have to get my hockey sleep as the Red Lighters play again tommorrow at 2pm at De La Salle Arena, a little south of Yonge and St. Clair.

It is hilarious too as there is a live rock band always playing between whistles on the side of the rink!

The government is asking for input from us (belive it or not!) please mail your letter of support of the liberal's proposed Canada Council increase to:
budget2006consult@fin.gc.ca
(see mine below)

Good day,

When I met Stephen Harper on an airplane, 24 hours or more after the Canada Council announced the budget increase (a few weeks before he became prime minister) proposed by the Liberals I asked him about the odds of him honouring this increase and he hadn't even heard of it.

Suprised?

With this important anniversary coming up for the Canada Council and the fact that Canadian art in most disciplines is just getting"over the hump" of being recognize worldwide I would only hope that Stephen Harper would see the importance of increasing the Canada Council's budget as planned.

An increase like this will help the economies of larger centers and smaller cities with tourism etc. coast to coast as well as strengthening the work of artists and arts organizations and therefore also the image of our artistic imports which will also improve trade relations with those major countries Canada is focusing on such as China and Mexico.

thank you,

I was blogging from my cafe spot this morning at the Linux but it didn't work...hmmm. Still getting used to the hand held technology.

Will be fun and handy when I get good at it. Funny that I am kind of mad about the holiday arriving. It is just that I can't really get anything done on those days. Of course I will have fun with the kids but that is always true. I guess I like a good balanced day. lots of work lots of fun.

I am excited about the Exclaim Cup this weekend. I am playing for a team called the Victoria Red Lighters When I looked at the website it seems like they are keeping stats of each player in this tournament online. (hopefully I can get a few assists or something!)

Our first opponent includes Sean Cullen and our second opponent includes george stroumbolopolus (sp?).

I have not played real, organized hockey in more than ten years so A) it should be fun B) hope i don't get in any fights C) I am going to be exhausted after this Easter Holiday!

My work day is slipping away (what did I do?) as I have to go get the boys soon.

today is a true hockey blog. How bout those Leafs!? What a game. I caught all of the third period on the radio. It is kind of nice when the game is not on cable and I have to tune in to the old crackly radio coverage. It was definitely the most exciting hockey game I have ever heard on the radio. Ex Leaf Joe Nieundyk (sp?) got a hatrick and only minutes later, Leafs Captain Mats Sundin popped another one in to tie the game and get his first home ice hat trick. The crowd was going crazy. Mats ended up with four goals and two assists as the Leafs won it with ten seconds left in overtime. So glad it didn't go into the shootout. I like the shootout (especially on the radio) but the Leafs have been really lousy on the shootout!

I am hoping HNIC this Saturday against the Senators is to stay alive. That will be exciting!

I had fun at the National Jazz Awards last night. I felt a little bit like the bad kid at the back of the classroom. (talking and laughing when I should have been listening)

Hats off to Bill King again for doing a good job.

Personally, it felt a little tense to me and I think it is caused by this marginalized music being celebrated in such a large way. ie. sold out massive conference room at the Old Mill Inn. I suppose you have to think big to get big...Someone (can I mention your name ron?) suggested that it was just me or "us" who was marginalized while mainstream jazz is out there doing just fine thank you very much...ie. the broadcasters and celebrated singers etc. aren't checking to see if they can afford another cocktail etc.

Ok, maybe I AM a little nieve.

...I am still cheering for the Leafs! (hmmm...wait a minute...this is starting to come clear! haha)

p.s. did I tell you I bough tickets for the Zappa plays Zappa show here in Toronto. Hurray!!! Way to go Dweezil!

I have really let you guys down lately. sorry.

I usely keep you up to date with the day to day but for whatever reason have let that slide. (my theory is that this the part that people most enjoy and actually brings them back for regular readings...not because my life is interesting but because I am somewhat honest and people like to read things they can relate to)

Anyways, tommorrow night is the National Jazz Awards...I don't have a ticket yet...damn!...still planning to go. I spent a large part of today on the ttc, in cabs and cars just getting Dylan to a birthday party in North West Toronto. (part of the problem with having most of his school friends "bussed in")

Also, I finally chose my 4oth bday present from my Dad and his wife and it is taking a lot of my time in the last few days (sorry I forgot to tell you Dad!)

It is like having a new computer (it is a new computer!) and I am not one to waste time in getting into new technology (some of my friends might be laughing at that one)

Any "Palm" people out there? I am excited about the potential but there is lots to learn.

The Red Guitar takes up it's usual massive amount of time. I may have slacked off a bit in the last few days and I will pay for that. (ie. tonight and tommorrow needs lots of work on the old RG) I heard some really nice music from Marilyn Lerner, Matt Brubeck and Nick Fraser there last night. ( I was disappointed that I forgot about Dave Rempis being in town on Friday...I wish those guys would send emails as well as posting on the soundlist!...Did anyone go?)

Yes, I am working on my music. Getting a bit of practising in (never enough) but had a really fun duo session with Rob Clutton last week. I hope we get to do more of that.

Time to watch the 72 Series on CBC (if you don't know what that means...dont worry about it!)

p.s. go leafs go!!
