If you are in Toronto this weekend don't miss this. These two guys really are my fave piano players and we all went to the Banff School together in l990...wow, 18 years ago.

---------------------------------

When: 8pm - Friday, June 27th, 2008
Where: Harbourfront Sirius Stage
Who: Andy Milne & Benoit Delbecq “Crystal Magnets”

“Two masters of contemporary piano improvisation, one Canadian and one French collaborated on a two- piano recording project at the Banff Centre in January to explore relationships involving melodic, harmonic and rhythmic structures, timbre and texture, room acoustics, space, and time.”

Benoit & I met as students @ the Banff Centre back in 1990 and have been great friends ever since. I’m very excited about this collaboration so I hope you can experience it.

THEN:

When: 11pm – Saturday, June 28th, 2008
Where: Haboourfront Brigantine Room
Who: Andy Milne & Heather Cornell “Finding Synesthesia”
Andy Milne – piano, Heather Cornell – tap dance
Malika Zarra – vocals, Greg Heffernan – cello

“For this performance, tap dancer Heather Cornell and pianist composer Andy Milne collaborated to create music that draws on tap’s connection to jazz but shifts the focus from rhythm to blending texture with rhythmic counterpoint, form and melody. Within Milne’s new compositions, one can hear hints of Gershwin’s “American in Paris” along side contemporary angular melodies and rhythmic grooves reminiscent of “Fred Astaire meets Dave Holland””
