I saw the new film Monkey Warfare last night at the Royal Cinema. What a great film. Directed by Reg Harkema and starring Don Mckellar. There are so many interesting underlying themes that I quite enjoyed; lots of vinyl being played, lots of pot being smoked, lots of bike being ridden and lots of protest power in the air.
Although I missed the quotes or direct references to Godards films I did enjoy the unique view to urban landscape here in Toronto. (funny to see all the cityscapes with the top of the CN tower cut off!)
The soundtrack was very funky and some Sun Ra and other interesting, dark music.
I thought the script and the acting were excellent and the film looked great too. I hope people will encourage the Royal (Toronto's new alternative cinema) and go and see it before it comes to DVD. It is worth it to see a realistic view of our own neighbourhoods on the big screen.
