I remember hearing that a Canadian Jazz writer had a problem with all the guitar players who are "self promoters" or
"over-publicized" or something like that. It just occured to me why this situation is as such. Guitar players generally come
from the garage-band culture which is all about self-promotion. This becomes even clearer when you think about horn
players etc. who today mostly come out of band programs in high school. The closest thing they probably knewto
postering, or making/selling tickets etc. is their bottle drive or grapefruit sales to make money for their next band trip.
